Kids Summer Quilt Camp 2009

Trinity Presbyterian Church in Satellite Beach repeated its hospitality by letting us hold a weeklong camp in their social hall. Two groups of campers, Star Stitchers (beginners), Zigzaggers (returning second year campers) selected their choice of precut quilt packet and with the assistance of  dedicated volunteers sewed personal quilts and "flat pets." A third group of advanced students designed their own wall panels for which they pieced advanced blocks, learned to applique, machine quilted the project, and then bound the edges.

Mrs. Bollo's sewing students produced thirty-plus group quilts which were given to children residing at The Haven. Beginner students tied their quilts, and the advanced students machine quilted their quilts. This is the fouth year that Mrs. Bollo's classes have learned to make quilts which are donated to children's charities. Students who choose to continue quilting can then make personal quilts.

Hoover Middle School 2008 - 2009

Mrs. Frisbee and Mrs. Ivers' special needs students were delighted to sew personal quilts during the school. Assisted each week by their aides a very dedicated EduQuilter volunteer, students selected their own patterns, sewed the needed portions, and then tied or machine quilted their quilts. Volunteers also assisted by machine quilting some of the quilts. The quilt experience ended with a beautiful tea, given for parents and supporters. Each student's great moment was when he/she presented the quilt each had made.

KIDS SUMMER QUILT CAMP JUNE 2008

Trinity Presbyterian Church in Satellite Beach again provided a wonderful site for our June summer camp. Two groups, Star Stitchers and Zigzaggers, produced personal quilts. Each of the 22 campers selected her own fabrics. Zigzaggers created their own designs using strips sets and four patches. Wonderful volunteers worked side by side with the Star Stitchers as "personal trainers"-- sewing buddies who led them through the process of learning to use a sewing machine and continuing through to the finished quilt.
